FISA is a union organization that has been supporting employees across Quebec for many years. Find out more about this union organization, how it works, its mission and the cost of membership. Founded in 1947, the Fédération indépendante des syndicats autonomes has, over the years, developed expertise in representing workers from a wide variety of workplaces. For over 78 years, the FISA has represented people working in municipalities, technology and aviation companies, housing cooperatives, transportation and more. With over 78 years of history, the FISA is a solid, well-established union organization in Quebec!

Our mission : defend and strengthen your rights!

Our Federation’s mission is to offer our affiliated unions the full range of services they need to organize and operate effectively, with a view to defending and improving their members’ working conditions. FISA is incorporated under the Professional Syndicates Act, and its activities are aimed at studying, defending and developing the economic, social and moral interests of its members. In other words, our Federation does whatever is necessary to defend and promote the rights of the workers who make it up – YOUR rights!

Autonomy

Affiliated unions are in control of their organizations. Armed with the advice and services of FISA, they make the decisions and take the directions that suit them best. FISA encourages affiliated unions to achieve a high level of autonomy in carrying out their mission, thanks to the training and support it provides.

Solidarity

Affiliated unions are committed to mutual aid, mutual support and the pooling of knowledge and experience; autonomous and supportive unions.

Quality Services

FISA’s affiliated unions and staff are committed to providing quality services. All strive for excellence in promoting and defending members’ rights.

Proximity

The FISA team is accessible and close to affiliated unions, being an integral part of their union life. Affiliated unions are encouraged to be present and available for their members.

Respect for members, affiliated unions, staff, ideas and differences is an essential value at FISA.

Democracy, solidarity and union autonomy at the heart of our bylaws

Although comprehensive, our by-laws and regulations are constantly evolving.

FISA is a democratic organization and its member unions enjoy a high degree of autonomy in their decision-making. FISA’s statutes and regulations are drafted in such a way as to enable members to remain masters of the organization’s destiny. They also ensure:

    • Significant democratic power for each member
    • Undeniable flexibility
    • Respect for the autonomy of its member unions
    • Union solidarity between members
    • Strike fund
    • Shared advocacy costs
    • Etc.

Quality union services at an affordable price

100% of the membership fee goes to you!

By affiliating with FISA, you’re guaranteed one of the lowest dues rates in Quebec. What’s more, tiered dues ensure equity between contributing unions, based on their size. Premiums and overtime are also excluded!

    • 0.85% of gross monthly payroll for unions with 1 to 499 members
    • 0.75% of gross monthly payroll for unions with 500 to 999 members
    • 0.52% of gross monthly payroll for unions with 1,000 or more members
