Joining a union brings great benefits
There are many advantages to joining a union. Joining forces with your colleagues and affiliating with a federation of autonomous unions such as FISA ensures that you do what’s necessary to protect your jobs. In Quebec, unionizing to protect yourself also means asserting your rights!
With affiliation to a federation of unions, you:
- Create a balance of power in favor of your organization’s employees. By being united, you become more cohesive and increase your bargaining power.
- Improve your working conditions, for sure! Our team of professionals will guide you effectively through the negotiation process with your employer.
- Get the services of a competent team that defends you and ensures your rights are recognized. We can represent you in cases of dismissal, layoff, disciplinary notice, harassment, injustice, unfairness, workplace accidents and much more.
- Access information about the world of work. Our team will answer all your questions.
- Get to know your colleagues and develop ties with each other at union meetings.

See the FAQ below
Will my employer know I'm starting a process to unionize?
If we unionize, will our company close?
Your company won’t close! By unionizing, you enable your organization to be structured with an employment contract. This will add predictability to your employer in terms of human resources and finances.
Will we lose control of our union by joining FISA?
You will retain control of your union. That’s because at FISA, we put a premium on maintaining your autonomy in the decision-making and governance of your union.
The autonomy of our affiliated unions is part of our organization’s values.
Where do our contributions go?
Directly into the budgets intended to defend and promote your rights. FISA is a federation independent of any other organization. Your membership fees remain in the FISA budgets (administration fund, solidarity fund and investments) and are used in your best interests.
Why not affiliate with a major organization?
Because with us, you have the opportunity to make your opinion heard and your votes really count!
You won’t be a number, and your interests won’t be diluted among tens of thousands of people.
Because with us, you’ll have one of the most competitive contribution rates.
Because with us, you’ll get personalized, professional service.
Because with us, you’ll get local service.
Do other organizations have larger strike funds?
Possibly, but our strike fund is adapted to the size of our federation. Striking is the ultimate pressure tactic. There’s a whole range of pressure tactics you can use to influence your employer, and we use them brilliantly.
We also make it easy for you to access our strike fund, so you can maintain your autonomy even while benefiting from it.
Will I lose my premium? My bonus?
No! Negotiating a collective agreement does not mean reducing working conditions. It’s perfectly possible to negotiate incentive pay, bonuses and the like.
